The Florida Panther, one of the most endangered species in the world.
The Florida Panther is a large slender subspecies from the North American cougar (Felis concolor) that has adapted to the subtropical environment of Florida, and is one of the most endangered mammals in the world. It is a long tailed pale brown cat that can grow up to to six feet or longer, and was named the state animal of Florida in 1982. It has been on the federal endangered species list since 1967 and on the state's endangered list since 1973. The future of this large animal depends entirely on the management decisions that are made today on its behalf.
